Today is a sad day. That’s because one year ago marks the tragic ending of a pair of paranormal investigators made famous for their appearances on Ghost Adventures.

Too often in our lives there are things that go on behind the scenes, that public folks, and yes I suppose I am one of them in circles, that some who cherish their privacy.

What most people didn’t know, myself included, was Mark and Debbie were estranged, and there were allegations Mark was abusive, however there were some reports Debbie was as well.

Previous to what I am about describe was an altercation between them about a month or two sooner which culminated in both their arrests for domestic violence.

Either way, on September 22nd, 2015, Mark went to Debbie’s apartment, shot and killed the man present there and kidnapped Debbie and took her to where he had ben staying. It turned into a standoff with the police, ending when Mark shot Debbie, killing her, and turning the gun on himself.

We take this time to remember domestic violence is a horrible thing. All too often we know someone in this situation. Take the time to help. The tools they need can be found here at the National Domestic Abuse Hotline:  http://www.thehotline.org/  or can call toll free at 1-800-799-7233

Now lets move to a more current and fluent situation going on. The Ryan Buell arrest. Ryan was the team leader, narrator and Star of Paranormal State, which aired on A&E beginning in 2007. The show had a short run and ended abruptly.

In 2011 Ryan Buell revealed he had pancreatic cancer and at the same time he began a tour. Unfortunately people shelled out $80K (source: ABC11.com)  in prepaid ticket sales. But venues were never contacted or booked, plane tickets never booked for the people appearing on the tours. And people had to fight to get refunds. Some did, some claim they did not.

Now let’s remember, in the United States people are innocent before being proven guilty by trial. On August 25th, 2016 Ryan Buell has been accused of two felony counts of receiving stolen property and theft of leased property and one misdemeanor charge of theft of services.

The complaint was signed on September 14th, 2016 the complaint was signed and a Magistrate ordered the arrest of Buell which was completed in Buell’s home town in Wake County, North Carolina on September 18th, 2016 and Buell now sits in jail awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania where the alleged crimes occurred.  The agency that took the complaint was the Penn State College Police Department.

According to Buell’s mother he does not suffer from cancer.

"He’s ill, but not from cancer. His family knows the REAL story. You all need to stop believing his lies and stop enabling him….PLEASE."

What seems to be the majority opinion is that there is a drug addiction issue here.

In an earlier Facebook post, Buell’s friend and Paranormal State director and co-star Chad Calek wrote:

“In regard to Ryan’s “condition”, after reading Ryan’s Mother’s plea to the public, I would be truly surprised if anyone at this point is unaware that Ryan is suffering from addiction. This isn’t anything new. This has been going on, at different levels, with different substances, for as long as I’ve known Ryan.  Like many of you, over time I had also come to suspect that Ryan was not suffering from pancreatic cancer for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, it appears as though my suspicions were correct, as I just learned from reading his mother’s message that Ryan does not have cancer, as his mother states this as a fact in her public plea for help. I don’t know if this means that he never had cancer, or that he is now currently cancer-free.”

It appears Calek has removed that post and posted an extremely long post, befitting what a good friend does, documenting his journey with Ryan on Paranormal State and vowing his loyalty to him. Although there are areas of the post where he agrees Buell has fallen.

If anyone hasn’t seen recent pictures of Buell, his transformation is stunning:

Either way, here is a sad sight regardless of the veracity of the allegations against Buell. There is a track record of Buell mishandling monies, and blowing off his fans and disappearing. And of course the facial transformations. All the hallmarks of someone with an addiction problem.

In my opinion, eliminate the addiction and you eliminate the problems that surround not just your health, but your life as well.

The sad thing is how amazing that despite the numbers of people having addiction problems, there is no national number to call for help for drug addiction. Most of the places, the first thing they will ask is, “What insurance do you have?”

Unfortunately substance abuse doesn’t excuse actions, which if they are proved to be true in court, he will have to face up to that and rightfully so.

At any rate, we do hope that Buell gets the help he needs and turns his life around.

Remember, folks on TV are people too. They can slip and fall. It’s all about how you pick yourself up.

Another note, I hope to see some friends at the Whitehall Sasquatch Festival this Saturday (Sept. 24th) in Whitehall, New York and at the ScareFest in Lexington, Kentucky Sept 30th – Oct. 2nd, 2016. Good times…good times!

Till Next Time,
